“You can work on what needs improvement without ignoring how far you’ve come. Financial progress isn’t always a big milestone.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jasmine:<\/strong>
“So what counts as progress?”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

JMarie:<\/strong>
“Paying a bill on time. Saving your first $25. Spending less than you did last month. Saying no to something you don’t really need. Finally looking at your bank account instead of avoiding it. Those are all steps forward.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jasmine:<\/strong>
“I guess I don’t always count those things because they seem so small.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

JMarie:<\/strong>
“Small doesn’t mean insignificant. Financial habits are built through small decisions repeated over time.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jasmine:<\/strong>
“So I can celebrate where I am while still working toward where I want to be?”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

JMarie:<\/strong>
“Exactly. Celebrate the progress, learn from the setbacks, and keep moving forward.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udca1 The Lesson<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Financial progress doesn’t always look the way we imagine it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes we think progress means paying off all our debt, having thousands of dollars in savings, reaching a major financial goal, or earning more money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those things can certainly be meaningful milestones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But progress can also be much smaller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Started tracking your spending<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Created your first budget<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Saved your first $10 or $100<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Paid a bill on time<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Reduced an unnecessary expense<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Started building an emergency fund<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Thought twice before making an impulse purchase<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Started talking about money instead of avoiding it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Those things count.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Progress Is Not a Straight Line<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    There may be months when you make great financial choices and months when things don’t go according to plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    An unexpected expense may come up. You may overspend. You may have to use some of your savings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Take a few minutes to look back at your financial habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Write down three things you’ve improved, even if they seem small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
